ELEVENTH DAY

2 attenders:

Thaís Leiros;
João Calvino;

ACTIONS: As we have promised we brought to the students the readings and and pictures of the first video we have seen together (see below in homework 6). We will see the others in the next classes.

HIGHLIGHTS: The idea of bringing this material is to make a review of what we have seen so far. We have to remember that the class is in English and that the material we showed untill today is part of a series of lectures made by Dr. Ken Han and he speaks in the normal way of speaking, because he is speaking to an American congregation. Also his accent is different from what the Brazilian students of English are used to listen, so bringing the printed materials in the videos are good to cristalize the teaching. We showed last class to the students the first idea of a panflet we are going to use in the schools to share about our class. The students will help to develop the content of this panflet.

HOMEWORK:

1) invite people from outside church to come (still valid);
2) search for names and their meanings in the Bible (open time exercise);
3) search for famous passages in the Bible (open time exercise);
4) study the various versions of John 3:16, choose one of them as the best in their perspective and discuss the others next class (done);
5) have a look at the websites www.answersingenesis.org and teologiaselecionada.blogspot.com/, because these sites bring many concepts on what we discussed in the class relating to creationism (still valid);

TENTH DAY

3 attenders:

Renato;
André;
João Calvino;

ACTIONS: We opened with a collective word of prayer, after that we showed them the video 'Did God created in 6 literal days? – part 2' from the website www.answersingenesis.org. That’s the second of two videos about the same subject.

HIGHLIGHTS: The video brought again the discussion about the literarity of the Bible. To believe or not in the integrity of the Bible as the Word of God is crucial to the Christian faith. We asked the participants to pray for our class, because the objective of it is to bring non-christians to have a contact with subjects related with the Bible. Let's pray for it! Also we promised the students to make a summary of the four vides we have seen so far and to bring to them with all the readings it was shown during the videos.

EIGHTH DAY

5 attenders:

Elias;
André;

João Calvino;

Renato;

ACTIONS: We opened with a word of prayer by André. This time we did it in Portuguese. We showed them the video 'Is Genesis Relevant for Today? Part 2' from the website www.answersingenesis.org as we have promised ot show it to them in the classroom.

HIGHLIGHTS: We had a very good discussion about the video. The students participated a lot talking about what called their attention during the video. A special highlight to what was said by André. When the students were asked if they believe in the Bible in the way the video presented, what is, in the way it is written, André said 'I do believe in the Bible and that God created the earth and the universe, but I question if it was literally in the way it is written'. We said this is the right point in all the discussion 'do we believe in the Bible in the way we read it?' So I left here the question for those who read this blog.

SEVENTH DAY

4 attenders:

Elias;
Eliete;
João Calvino;

Lidiane;

ACTIONS: We opened and closed with a word of prayer. The opening was by Lidiane and the closing by Elias. We read the text 'Summary of the Books of the Bible' till the fifth book – Deuteronomy, from http://www.holybible.com/resources/KJV_DFND/summary.htm.

HIGHLIGHTS: We have planned to talk a bit about the first video we showed last class and start the second, but unfortunately we forgot an essential RCA to P2 cable to make the connections between the laptop and the sound system. The infraestructure of the room is something that we will have to solve. The idea is to have everything we need in the room so we haven't to bring and take back home anything that we need. Maybe we wil have to present to the Counsel of our church (the Elders) a plan for this special class. I say special, because no other class has these features and they never presented a plan like this. We are trying to do everything wasting the minimun amount of money possible. During some previous classes we had a doubt about the use of SHALL. Of course this is a class to study the Bible, but since the students are all Brazilians some English doubts will always happen, so we sorted out this doubt and promised the students to send them an e-mail with some links for them to confirm for themselves. Some new words received special attention as APTLY and ATONEMENT. These were also words that we promised to send to the students by e-mail a proper definition.

HOMEWORK:

1) invite people from outside church to come (still valid);
2) search for names and their meanings in the Bible (open time exercise);

SIXTH DAY

7 attenders:

Elias;
Renato;
Felipe;
Eliezer Júnior;
Eliete;
João Calvino;

Priscila;

ACTIONS: We opened with a colletive word of prayer in which I pronounced the words and the students repeated them. We showed them the video 'Is Genesis Relevant for Today? Part 1' from the website www.answersingenesis.org as we have promised them we should do in this morning.

HIGHLIGHTS: Some students are not willing to pray by themselves, there are some who are more open and extrovert and also are more skillful to pray without any help, if we have a day without an extrovert and able student to pray by him/herself we will always guide them in prayers. All of our classes will be always opened and closed by a word of prayer. We had some problems with the video, because our sound systems wasn't there. This is a particular aspect that we must solve in the future. We are working on that, but we were not able to sort it out yet. After the video some of the students said that the level of the video is too high for them. I know it is, but this was done by purpose and I hope with time they get more interested in these challenges.
